It's weird watching my very own juniors performing a full concert on stage and totally into the music. Not forgetting that all of them have improved so much since my very last concert, Limelight in Esplanade 2007, with them. I'm still very impressed and amazed by how much certain sections have improved. For example the tubas, don't know since when they've become so much stronger compared to last time.
Jun Wei (my beloved junior!) and Daniel (my "favourite" junior!) and the rest of Flute section has really displayed musicality, especially those 2 Sec 4s who moved together with the music at the last piece, Do-Re-Mi. (It's a CHSSB Flutes thing to move together with the music since Yi Zha's era) Hmmm, kind of reminded me how robotic I've become since joining VJCSB. And to be very honest, CHSSB's flute section is much more musical while VJCSB's flutes are more technical and care more about hmmm, getting in tune? I don't know, maybe it's a culture thing. Jun Wei did a superb job in Carnival of Venice solo and it made me as his senior so ashamed of myself for being so chui compared to him :P But anyway, I'm really proud of all of them (Yesyes!) and I'm sure Yun Song is too.
Anyway, I'm finally really convinced that God has His plans for the Band. It's just so blessed. Perhaps most of us, me included, couldn't what's so true about that upon receiving a very shocking Silver for SYF'07, upon putting up a not-very-fantastic Limelight concert in Esplanade, upon changing conductor one week after we (the current J1s) stepped down. However, look at this very first concert since Mr. Tan took over. Isn't it great? So isn't all those things blessings in disguise for the Band?
Things remain the same. The passion in music is the same. Singing school song, shouting Band cheer and singing the
And The Song Remains The Same.
